Trying to keep up with the growing popularity of tablets, Microsoft announced their newest version of the Microsoft Surface. Microsoft hopes their 10.6-inch tablet will rival the iPad and crush any other competition.
The good folks at Microsoft see the tablet as basically a “stage for windows 8”. The surface weighs at just about 1.5 lbs; with 2.0 USB ports that are full sized and is only about 9.3mm thin. The tablet’s exterior is designed of magnesium and sits next to a Gorilla Glass 2 screen, which is bonded optically, a feature that the manufacturer claims is designed for the surface only. Microsoft made announcements of several accessories that are similar to the accessories of the iPad such as a copy of the SmartCover and a full keyboard.
However, if Microsoft is still angling to battle with Apple, they will have to entice developers. Apple has a legion of third party developers. The surface has given app developers an unrivalled user base; since the tablets apps will be able to work on desktop and mobile devices.
It is said that the Microsoft Surface comes with storage sizes of between 32 and 64 GB, while the more familiar Intel variation is available in 64 and 128 GB. There is no mention of price at the moment but Microsoft has said that it would be priced competitively.
